HEMLOCK

The Pacific Coast Hemlock commercial group includes Western Hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) and Amabilis fir (Abies amabilis). The wood is moderately hard and strong with high bending strength, shear strength and stiffness.

Canada's Western Hemlock is used in home and commercial building construction, as well as in specialized wood products. Compared to other species, Hemlock's strength and stiffness make it a preferred material for use in horizontal components and longer spans, therefore ideal for pallet stock which will be used in racks, with high amounts of weight being placed on the stringers.

Pacific Coast Hemlock sands smoothly, glues easily, and has high nail and screw holding ability. Its painting and staining characteristics are very good. Therefore ideal for re-usable pallets.
